WHAT IS SALFORD CITY RADIO AND HOW IS IT DIFFERENT FROM OTHER STATIONS?
Salford City Radio is a not-for-profit community radio station with volunteer presenters and technicians. This means that the radio station does not operate in order to generate revenue, but to offer a genuine local radio service that is concerned primarily with Salford and our people. Other stations are hugely successful commercial radio stations that exist to make profits from advertising revenue, and cover the entire Greater Manchester area.

IS IT OWNED AND RUN BY SALFORD CITY COUNCIL? IS IT A SOAP BOX FOR THE COUNCIL?
No. Salford City Radio is completely independent from the City Council. However, we are based within the Civic Centre, and we have benefited from over £140,000 in funding from the council and we do recognise that the public do believe that we are just another council department. This is not the case and Salford City Council has absolutely no power over the editorial policies of the radio station. We are extremely fortunate to have the support of the council because nationally, the new and emerging community radio sector of which we are a part is struggling to attract the support of their local authority. Our only obligation to the council is that we are orderly tenants!

I CANNOT PICK UP SALFORD CITY RADIO ON MY FM RADIO, YET I LIVE IN SALFORD...WHY?
Most people living in the city of Salford can pick us up without any problems, but it depends on many factors such as your exact location (any tall buildings in the area or are you surrounded by trees!) and the type of hi-fi/aerial you are using (for example, if you live on the ground floor of a flat in Ellesmere Park and you're using a small radio with a short wire out the back for an aerial; then the reception won't be as good as it will for those living in a high rise flat in Eccles using the building's communal aerial on the roof. Believe it or not, it is possible to hear us up in Merseyside!

WHO DESIGNED YOUR GREAT LOGO?... AND WHAT IS IT?
Our logo, which depicts the city of Salford with a smiley face and wearing a pair of headphones, was designed by 13 year old Rebecca McDonnell of St George's High School in Walkden. We held a logo designing competition, and received over 300 entries from schools across the city. Some people think it looks like a fish!

WHO DESIGNED YOUR BRILLIANT WEBSITE?
Our website was designed by one of our studio manager's Chris Brophy. He has achieved much success in the media and music industries worldwide particularly as a record producer, presenter and remixer. Chris has been designing award winning websites for quite some time. ARE YOU JUST A POP MUSIC STATION?
No. We play a wide variety of music genres on SCR. You can expect to hear the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and various music from the present day, including indie, rock, dance, R&B, classical and more.
